Dear Tony and all,
there are several reasons for that which might be summarìzed in one
word: statistics, which doesn't mean only "to count".
Furthermore, we aim to really concerned people who may spend 30
seconds of their time to fill in the form. If visitor just likes to
have a look at the maps and atlases content of the website it is not
necessary to register, he has to register only if he wants to
navigate into the images. Due to the high resolution (300 ppi) and
the kind of equipment used (Metis - Rome, that produces the best
available large format scanner in the world today), joint with the
capacity of two Italian leader socities in multimedia [MIDA
Informatica (Bergamo) and Hyperborea (Pisa)], I ensure you the
navigation is really profound and somwhere astonishing. Try it!
. . . and we hope it is only the beginning.
Thanks a lot.
vladimiro
